The work, step by step

Not every job needs every step. The usual ones are:

• Insert winding bars to ease tension from the intact spring before taking off the spring hardware.
• Use winding bars to relieve spring counter-tension before touching the bottom-bracket hardware.
• Inspect the cable drums for groove damage and check that the bottom brackets are structurally sound.
• Detach the old cables from the bottom brackets and cable drums.
• Attach the replacement cables at the bottom brackets, route them along the door, and seat them in the drum grooves.
• Reset the drum timing and spool the cables evenly on both sides.
